Examples of this work include working together to keep care home residents safe and to reduce the need for them to be admitted to hospital; using technology to delver patient care, allowing clinical teams to keep track of patients with chronic conditions safely and in the comfort of their own home; rapid response service to reduce hospital admissions amongst frail and older people. The LLR Training Hub supports these key pieces of work by ensuring that our colleagues working in the roles providing the care to patients are able to access the necessary education, training and development support.

The LLR Training Hub has been established to ensure that there is high quality provision of education, training and development support for all of our colleagues working in general practice (primary care) across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. There are 133 practices in the area, and the training hub supports colleagues in all of these practices with their training and development to make sure that they have the skills in place to deliver safe and high quality care to patients locally. This includes GPs, nurses, clinical pharmacists, physician associates, nursing associates, advanced clinical practitioners, social prescribers and numerous other roles, including administration and management. The training hub makes sure that there is access to training courses and programmes for all different roles, either individually or as team based learning.

One of the key challenges locally at the moment is recruiting to the extensive roles that we have in primary care, and ensuring that there is a good level of interest in the learning pathways available for students who are considering a career in the NHS. The LLR Training Hub works closely with GP surgeries to support them to recruit to their vacant roles, and provides a comprehensive induction to support each new member of staff to settle in and understand more about their new working environment. The hub team also works closely with the university teams to make sure that there are enough placements available for students looking for experience in primary care, and promotes all the benefits that a career working in primary care has to offer.
